Heraklion International Airport

Heraklion International Airport (Nikos Kazantzakis Airport) is the main airport serving the island of Crete. It’s located approximately 17 miles west of the resort town (Hersonissos) we’ll be staying in. Lyft and Uber are not available in Crete, but taxis will be readily available at the airport. The ride to the hotel typically takes around 20-25 minutes, depending on traffic, and should cost between 30-40 Euros. Before you get into the cab, it would be a good idea to have the hotel information readily available to show the taxi driver in the unlikely event that communication with the driver is complicated. Also, be sure to confirm the journey fare with the driver before leaving the airport.

Remember that we’ll be visiting Crete in the peak of its tourist season. The airport is a hub for both international and domestic flights and is a key entry point for the island. It will be very busy. For the journey home, it would be a good idea to arrive early for check-in and security.
